Rooted in Fire Is Now Available for Preorder — Signed Copies at Vroman’s Bookstore!

Updated: Jul 23

It’s here! After years of cooking from the soul, digging into my roots, and pouring every ounce of love into these pages — Rooted in Fire is officially available for pre-order.

Chef Pyet DeSpain’s debut cookbook, Rooted in Fire, is now available for pre-order.

I’m thrilled to announce that signed copies of my debut cookbook can now be reserved through Vroman’s Bookstore. This isn’t just a collection of recipes — it’s my life on a plate. It’s the fire that shaped me. It’s the flavors that raised me. It’s every lesson passed down, every dish shared with family, and every bite that carries a story.

Rooted in Fire: A Celebration of Native American and Mexican Cooking is a tribute to the people and places that made me who I am. Inside, you’ll find more than sixty recipes that bring together traditional ingredients like venison, wild salmon, sunchokes, dandelion greens, and native berries — all fused through my lens as an Indigenous and Mexican American woman.

Some of my favorite recipes in the book include:

  • Three Sisters Salad

  • Bison and Sweet Corn Soup

  • Fry Bread

  • Wojapi BBQ Sauce

  • Corn Silk and Honey Tea

  • Mexican Chocolate & Mezcal Cake

But more than that, this cookbook is a call to remember where our food comes from, who we’re connected to, and how we can celebrate culture with every meal we make. It’s a voice for Indigenous foodways and a love letter to the fusion of my heritage — written with fire and purpose.

This book has been two years in the making, but it holds a lifetime of stories, flavors, and deep gratitude. To my friends, family, agent, publishing team, and every single person who believed in this dream — thank you. Your support means everything.

Let’s keep cooking with culture, fire, and love. This is just the beginning.

With a grateful heart,

Chef Pyet
