Rooted in Fire Featured in Library Journal

I’m so excited to share that my cookbook Rooted in Fire: A Celebration of Native American and Mexican Cooking was recently highlighted in Library Journal’s fall cookbook preview!

The piece, “Stories and Recipes to Savor,” shines a light on upcoming titles that celebrate the way food brings us together, through stories, traditions, and shared meals. It’s an honor to see my book listed alongside so many incredible authors who are showcasing the foodways of the South, Appalachia, the Black community, and Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island.

For me, Rooted in Fire is more than a collection of recipes, it’s a reflection of my family, my heritage, and the belief that food is medicine. It’s about weaving stories of culture and history into everyday meals and reminding us that when we gather around a table, we’re not just feeding our bodies, we’re nourishing our spirits and passing on traditions.

Being included in Library Journal’s preview means so much because it recognizes Native and Mexican cooking as part of the wider conversation of food and storytelling in America.

I hope readers who discover Rooted in Fire through this feature will find inspiration to explore their own roots and bring ancestral knowledge into their kitchens.
