Indian Country Today Highlights Rooted in Fire

I had such a wonderful time meeting with the team at Indian Country Today to talk about my new cookbook, Rooted in Fire. It was an honor to sit down with a Native-led news organization that has spent years uplifting our voices and sharing our stories with the world.

We talked about what this book means to me, how it celebrates both my Native and Mexican roots and the journey that brought me here. I shared stories about the recipes that shaped me, from my family’s taquerias in Kansas City to my time growing up on the Osage Reservation, and how I’ve learned to bring those two worlds together through food.

It felt amazing to reflect on the memories behind each dish and how food can be an act of love, connection, and storytelling. That’s what Rooted in Fire is all about. Every recipe carries a piece of my family, my culture, and the people who have guided me along the way.

I’m so grateful to Indian Country Today for giving me the space to share this part of my story and for helping spread the message that Indigenous food is vibrant, alive, and belongs at every table.

You can read the full article on Indian Country Today’s website, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the conversation!

With love and gratitude,
