Featured in Publishers Weekly: Rooted in Fire Joins the Fall 2025 Cooking & Food Preview

Updated: Jul 23

I’m still taking this moment in — Rooted in Fire has officially been featured in Publishers Weekly’s Fall 2025 Cooking & Food Preview!

To be mentioned alongside names like Anthony Bourdain, Samin Nosrat, and Alice Waters is something I never imagined when I was scraping together change to make it to the next gig. Seeing Rooted in Fire listed among this season’s most anticipated cookbooks feels like a deep affirmation not just of me as a chef, but of the traditions and people that this book honors.

Published by HarperOne, Rooted in Fire: A Celebration of Native American and Mexican Cooking brings together the roots of who I am — Potawatomi and Mexican — and the flavors that raised me. Inside, you’ll find recipes that celebrate the old and the new, like venison stew, dandelion greens sautéed with love, and roasted sunchokes that remind me of the land. But it’s not just a cookbook — it’s a story of where I come from, the people who came before me, and the future I hope to feed.

This book is for those who’ve been told their food isn’t "elevated enough." It’s for those who want to learn how to use ancestral ingredients in everyday meals. It’s for Native kids and future chefs who’ve never seen their culture on the shelf of a bookstore before.

Rooted in Fire will officially be released on November 18, 2025, and HarperOne has announced a first printing of 50,000 copies. That alone speaks to the growing hunger for Indigenous foodways, for deeper stories around the dishes we cook, and for the nourishment that goes beyond calories.

Thank you to Publishers Weekly for recognizing the importance of Indigenous and Mexican cooking in today’s culinary conversation. And thank you to all of you who’ve supported me on this journey — whether you’ve come to a popup, watched me compete, or simply passed along a recipe to a loved one.

This isn’t just my moment. It’s ours.

With love and fire,

Chef Pyet
